2025 10U LEAGUE SOFTBALL RULES
(Play by USA rules, except for these amendments)
1. A regulation game will consist of 6 innings or 70 minutes. A game tied after regulation will remain a tie. Hustle on and off field. Courtesy runner for catcher only; runner must be the player who made previous out (mandatory with 2 outs).
2. Teams must have 7 players to start or continue a game. If a team has only 7 players, that team plays without a pitcher and neither team can bunt.
3. Pitching machine will be placed at 40 feet; speed will be set at approximately 37 mph but no higher.
4. All players will be listed in batting order. Ten players will be used on defense. Each player must play a minimum of 2 innings on defense. Side is retired after 3 outs or the team at bat has batted 10 players. (On the 10th batter, the inning will end on any forced out or caught fly ball; the third out achieved; or the ball is in front of the runner nearest home so that no one can score.) No Intentional Walks during Rec League Play.
5. Each batter will be given three strikes to put the ball in play. A batter may continue to foul off the pitch until she puts the ball in play or strikes out.
6. If a batted ball hits machine, batter will be awarded first base. All other base runners will advance one base, if they are forced.
7. Batters cannot fake bunt and swing. (Penalty-Dead Ball and batter is out) Out fielders remain in the outfield grass area, and the pitcher must remain in the box.
8. Stealing is allowed with the following limitations:
1) A runner cannot steal home.
2) A base runner can steal when the ball reaches home plate, and then only one base advanced is allowed.
• If a throw becomes an overthrow during a stolen base attempt, the runner only advances to the base they are trying to steal.
• If the machine throws a ball that is uncatchable (too wide or too high), it will be called no pitch and runners cannot advance.
3) Runners must maintain contact with the base until ball crosses the plate. The player and coach will be warned, if continuation occurs the penalty is an out.
9. Run rule will be 15 after 3, 10 after 4 and 8 after 5.
10. Any player unable to bat due to illness or injury will not be called out. Once a player is declared injured or ill, she will not be allowed to re-enter the game. The last runner to make an out may replace an injured base runner.
11. No infield practice before games; players can warm up in outfield area between games.
12. Only 2 coaches will be allowed on field on offense.
