2025 8U LEAGUE SOFTBALL RULES
(Play by ASA rules, except for these amendments)
1. A regulation game will consist of 4 innings or 60 minutes. A game tied after regulation will remain a tie. Hustle on and off field. Courtesy runner for catcher only; runner must be the player who made previous out (mandatory with 2 outs).
2. Teams must have 7 players to start or continue a game.
3. Pitching machine will be placed at 40 feet; speed will be set at approximately 34 mph but no higher.
4. All players will be listed in batting order. Side is retired after 3 outs or team at bat has batted 10 players. On the 10th batter, the inning will end on any forced out or caught fly ball; the third out achieved; or the ball inside the base path and time is called.
5. A batter shall be allowed 6 pitches. If on the sixth swing the ball is fouled, the batter will be allowed one additional swing. Ball must travel to designated area to be a “live” playable ball.
6. If a batted ball hits machine, batter will be awarded first base. All other base runners will advance one base, if they are forced.
7. Runners can advance on overthrows. A play becomes dead once the ball is returned to the infield area and possessed by infielder. If over halfway, runner advances to next base. If not halfway, runner returns to the previous base.
8. Stealing is not allowed.
9. Bunting is not allowed.
10. Infield fly rule will not be in effect.
11. Run rule will be 10 after 3.
12. Ten players will be used on defense. Each player must play a minimum of 2 innings on defense. The defensive team uses a maximum of 5 infielders, plus the catcher. Infielders will position themselves behind the pitching machine line and cannot charge toward the batter until the ball is hit. The outfield consists of remaining players.
13. Any player unable to bat due to illness or injury will not be called out. Once a player is declared injured or ill, she will not be allowed to re-enter the game. The last runner to make an out may replace an injured base runner.
14. No infield practice before games; player can warm up in outfield area between games.
15. Only 2 coaches will be allowed on field on offense.
